CPV Solar cells are devices converting solar energy directly into electricity via photovoltaic effect. Light falling and transmitting into the p-n junction of a solar cell produces a photovoltage or potential difference between the p- and n-layers. This voltage is capable of driving a current through an external circuit and thereby producing useful work. Solar cells can be made from a wide range of semiconductor materials including mono-, poly-, amorphous-silicon, compound semiconductors, dye and organic thin-film materials. Among these materials, the solar cells made from III-V compound semiconductors can provide wide range absorption in solar spectrum from visible to infrared and have the highest transforming efficiency. The energy conversion efficiency can be further increased by utilizing optics to concentrate solar energy, and therefore reducing the amount of needed solar cells. III-V compound semiconductor solar cells have attracted more attention as the third-generation solar cells, which have potentials of high energy conversion effiency and low costs.
Our HCPV submlount design is resulted from our expertise in ceramics-metal bonding , thermoconducting, wire bonding, anti-reflection epoxy coating and ceramics metallization to achieve maximum heat dissipation of the chip during solar cell operation and our design provides precise concentrated solar light and cell interaction for maximum power generation.
Each submount is prepared with a low forward voltage drop Schottky diode, which allows a maximum bypass forward current flow in the event this solar chip stops functioning and generates zero/low power output.
Such a device assures proper operation of the entire solar array in case a few individual chips fail to perform.
